Worshipful Brother James  CreightonWatt

The only Past Master whose name appears on the Masonic War Memorial in Windsor, is Worshipful Brother James Creighton Watt.

James was born in Glasgow, Scotland, son of Mr. And Mrs. James S. Watt. At an early age James along with his family moved to Aberdeen where he received his education.

With the outbreak of The Great War in Europe 1914 -1918, James enlisted and was assigned to the Cyclists Corps. As a member of that Corps James was responsible for delivering messages and dispatches along the Front.

After the war, James decided to move to Canada. He took up residence in Windsor, finding employment with the Post Office. After several years in Windsor James was transferred to London, Ontario. While in London, James met his wife Grace with whom they had one son, Jimmie.

It was during this time that James became interested in Freemasonry. On May 29th 1923, James was initiated into Nilestown Lodge No. 345, becoming a Master Mason on August 21st that same year. Brother Watt took a keen interest in Freemasonry, ultimately serving as Master of the Lodge in 1933. He was also interested in the Scottish Rite of Masonry, becoming a 32nd degree Mason in the Moore Consistory, Hamilton.

In 1937 Brother Watt was transferred to Calgary, Alberta. With the outbreak of the Second World War James enlisted with the Canadian Army and was assigned to the Postal Corps and sent overseas.

On June 11th 1941, Worshipful Brother James Creighton Watt passed on to eternity, a victim of disease. He was laid to rest in his home town of Aberdeen, Scotland, in the Nellfield Cemetery.
